3-D Design

Students will learn to make original designs and maybe even customize those designs to specific people. That means you can’t just download and print other people’s files— you need to rock that software yourself. Well, if you are just learning how to do that or have outgrown the “starter” apps, you’ve come to the right place! With this class you’ll soon be making your own designs with Autodesk’s Fusion 360 software. The course fee covers the 3-D printing of student designs. Fusion 360 is a program that enables creation of 3D designs, also called models. Autodesk chose that name because multiple, different software types are fused into it. You can do computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), and computer-aided engineering (CAE) tasks with Fusion 360. Its CAD capabilities let you model just about whatever you want. Its CAM capabilities let you generate code to run CNC cutting, carving, and rotary machines. Its CAE capabilities let you analyze the model for optimal performance. And it offers multiple ways to model. (prerequisite Intro to Computers)

This course will be in Canvas

Core Common Syllabus

Course fee - $30

You will need an AutoDesk education account and follow the steps to get access to Fusion

Install Fusion 360 - for home(it is on the school computers)

CURA Software - for printing(this will tell you the weight of the print in grams)

To convert files to SVG Use pngtosvg.com

You will be able to print several designs using up to 250 g of filament. You may print any project or personal assignment that you create.
When you are ready to print, save the file as an STL and open with CURA. The first time you do this ask me for help. Size your file to the size you would like it printed if necessary. Note the amount of filament used. Email the location of the STL file, the size, and the color you would like it printed. Email subject: 3-D print
Colors available: black, white, blue, yellow, orange, brown, green, baby pink, hot pink, red, gold (may change, see bookshelf)
